Securing the Future of Radiopharmaceuticals: Introducing the Trusted Advisor Group

New paper outlines how initiative will support the UK radiopharmaceutical community to establish a collaborative approach to regulation and safe patient access

Radiopharmaceutical imaging and therapeutic agents offer a rapidly advancing approach to disease treatment and diagnosis. They can potentially drive game-changing breakthroughs for patients in a range of areas, including inflammation and infection, cancer, cardiac conditions, and dementia.

However, as demand grows for these treatments, many challenges must be overcome, such as supply, infrastructure requirements, staffing, and regulation.

The UK has the opportunity to lead the world in radiopharmaceutical research and development by working in partnership to overcome challenges in the ecosystem.

The Trusted Advisor Group (TAG) is a new initiative supporting the UK’s radiopharmaceutical community by establishing a collaborative approach to working with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

It unites key stakeholders across the community, including representatives from academia, the NHS and commercial radiopharmacy teams, clinicians, the National PET Imaging Platform, and the MHRA.

The TAG has developed a new paper to outline the need to secure a solid supply of radiopharmaceuticals to deliver new diagnostics and therapeutics.

The paper includes:

  • A brief introduction to the TAG, its members and aims
  • An overview of the common challenges that may impact the availability of radiopharmaceuticals in the UK
  • A map of the UK radiopharmaceutical ecosystem
  • The key priority areas that the TAG’s activities and outputs will focus on to establish best practices, improve and streamline processes, and remove unnecessary barriers

Read the paper to learn more about how the TAG will help radiopharmacies meet regulatory requirements so that more radiopharmaceuticals can be made and delivered to the patients who need them.
